Guided by experts, this journey takes you deep into one of Europe’s most pristine wilderness areas while supporting the work of Foundation Conservation Carpathia to protect these vital ecosystems.
These mountains with their unfragmented forests serve as an ideal habitat for wildlife, including brown bears, wolves, and the Eurasian lynx.
Begin your adventure in the traditional village of Șinca Nouă, nestled at the foothills of the Carpathians. After settling in, explore the Equus Silvania Wilderness Centre, setting the stage for your trek. Over the next few days, hike by the jagged limestone ridges of Piatra Craiului and through the vast wilderness of the Făgăraș Mountains. Witness stunning views, the highest level of biodiversity in Eastern Europe, and traditional shepherding landscapes as you journey across rugged terrain and open alpine plains.
Stay in rustic yet comfortable accommodation, including a tented camp, a wildlife hut, and a chalet, each offering a unique connection to nature.
Highlights include spotting wildlife such as brown bears, chamois, and deer, crossing the historic ridge between Transylvania and Wallachia, and exploring the Forest of Immortal Stories, steeped in history and legend.
