Welcome to Poiana Tămaș wilderness camp
The locals say that the sheepfold in the Tămaș Meadow has always been there. Now it’s the perfect place to have an unforgettable mountain experience, somewhere far away from noisy and hectic places. Panoramic views of Păpușa, Piatra Craiului and the Făgăraș mountains will provide a breathtaking backdrop to your stay. As you step onto our covered pavilion, indulge in outdoor dining, where the fresh mountain air enhances the flavours of locally sourced and thoughtfully prepared dishes.
The old sheepfold has been refurbished with respect and authentic materials that were used for the original construction. The camp has 17 double tents and three larger tents equipped with mattresses or beds.
There are eco-friendly compost toilets and hot water bucket showers. The tented area is encircled by a bear-proof electric fence, however the true reason is that this is for days when the camp is abandoned, since bears are curious animals and might check out what is behind the tent walls.
All meals are prepared by a chef with local products to offer guests traditional and simple food with outstanding taste.
Tămaș Meadow is the right choice for those who love to experience pristine nature with a certain amount of comfort. The wilderness camp is designed for smaller or larger groups and our specialised staff can organize personalised wildlife monitoring and exploration activities.

Red Deer Rut Tour
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to hear the echoes of the red deer roaring through the Carpathian Mountains? In the autumn, once the leaves change colour, the rutting season is a true spectacle and needs to be experienced at least once in a lifetime.
Accompanied by a guide who knows the area very well, you will have the chance to observe the stags rutting in their natural habitat. The wilderness experience is combined with cosy accommodation in our wilderness camp, tasty picnics, hikes and breathtaking views over Făgăraș, Iezer-Păpușa Mountains and Piatra Craiului National Park.

Chamois Watching Tour
Known for their ability to quickly traverse steep, rocky terrain, chamois can be observed in their natural habitat throughout the whole year.
The mountain ranges of Piatra Craiului National Park bordering the eastern Făgăraș Mountains are amongst the most beautiful in the Romanian Carpathians. Here, you can enjoy great hiking trails and look for wildlife with a high chance of observing chamois. The exact route of our excursion may vary depending on the latest sightings, so please contact us for more information.

Dâmbovița Valley Circuit Hike
It starts from Plaiul Foii, from where you will hike about four hours to Poiana Tămaș Wilderness Camp and spend the night there. The camp is situated in a picturesque meadow, at an elevation of 1460 m. Panoramic views of Iezer-Păpușa, Piatra Craiului and the Făgăraș Mountains will provide a breathtaking backdrop to your stay.
A welcoming open fireplace invites you to gather around it, sharing stories and creating memories under the starry night.

Offroad transportation from Rucar village to the base and back (arrival & departure). There is a 1 h 30 min hike from the base (970 m) to Poiana Tămaș (1465 m). For an extra fee, groups can also be transferred up to the camp upon request.
